Some two hundred affiliated dog clubs and around five thousand members make up of KUSA.
KUSA is the principal and only fully recognized registered for all breeds of dogs in Southern Africa. KUSA is a member of the National Sports Council, the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale has reciprocal agreements with National Canine Organisations in over ninety countries and is recognized by the South African Stud book. KUSA makes Rules and Regulations for the registration of dogs.
Breed (Beauty, Shows, Obedience Classes, Working Trials, Dog Jumping, Dog Carting, Field Trials, Agility, Breed Working Tests and Aptitude Tests.
KUSA sets qualifications for and licenses people to judge at KUSA licensed shows.
The Union has prepared Canine Good Citizen Tests which may be held by any acceptable organization, whether or not affiliated to KUSA. Successful candidates receive an official numbered KUSA certificate and rosette.
KUSA offers the serious student canine history research facilities through its library and records
The Union liaises with the Sports Council, Government (both central and local), together with the veterinary profession, welfare bodies and commercial organizations on matters of mutual interest.
We support research into South Africa’s indigenous dogs and publish the country’s only dog magazine with over sixty years of unbroken publication. We provide any enquirer with general and specialist information and make referrals where necessary.
